Italian and European choreographers and dance companies.
Where: Chiostro Grande Santa Maria Novella , Firenze, Italy
When: from June 20th to July 31st 2021
Deadline for applications: March 15th 2021
The dance project, TWILIGHT IN THE ROUND 2021, comes to life in the
form of a CALL FOR ARTISTS, organized by the Florence Dance Festival in
order to facilitate the mobility and exchange of artists from the
international dance scene. The project aims to host, promote and support
new creations by young and emerging Italian and European choreographers
and dance companies.
The project is part of the 32nd edition of the
Florence Dance Performing Arts Festival which will be held between the
20th of June and the 31st of July 2021 in the Great Cloister of Santa
Maria Novella – Florence, within the Estate Fiorentina Summer Festival
of the city of Florence.
In view of this year’s celebrations for the 700th anniversary of
Dante Alighieri’s death, Florence will promote various initiatives that
will highlight the relationship between the great poet, his hometown and
his art. Based on this, the artistic proposals concerning Dante will be
taken into particular consideration, however companies are encouraged
to submit original artistic proposals for participation in the ‘Twilight
in the Round’ dance project.
The novelty of the 32nd Florence Dance Festival features a circular
stage of 12 meters in diameter, with an audience of up to 200 spectators
arranged at 360 degrees around the stage. The show will be presented at
8.30 pm, at sunset, with the twilight reinforced by fixed, brilliant
theatrical lighting projected on the dancers. This type of lighting will
highlight the poetry and the physical impact of dance as the theatrical
strength will remain on the presence of the dancers and the
choreographic work as an artistic proposal.
The shows will also be streamed live and / or deferred to reach a wider international audience.
