International Choreographic Competition Hannover 2022

The Ballett Gesellschaft Hannover e.V. has been organizing the ‘International Choreographic Competition Hannover’, which is unique in Europe, for 39 years. During this long period it has become an important factor in the national and international dance landscape. There are many dance competitions, but the ‘International Choreographic Competition Hannover’ is the longest-running choreography competition in the WORLD! The internationality of the applicants – on average, over 400 choreographers from over 50 nations take part – as well as the high-caliber jury show the high status it enjoys in international dance.

Conditions

Choreographers must have professional training. The age limit for the choreographers is 39 years. The choreography must have a duration of 5-12 minutes and a solo may not be interpreted by the choreographers themselves. The choice of the topic and the music is free. With these few framework conditions, the possibility is created that the competition is open to any stylistic direction. The only evaluation criteria are an imaginative use of space and time, the dance realization of an idea and its transfer to the performers.

For the 36th International Choreography Competition on July 1st and 2nd, 2022 in Hannover, please submit your application video with the registration form (download) by April 15th, 2022 by mail or email to our office:

These are the competition guidelines:
All participants, choreographers and dancers, ought to have professional training.
Choreographers must be 39 or younger. The competition is open to any kind of style. Evaluation is based exclusively on imaginative use of space and time, the realisation of an idea, and its transfer onto the performers. The duration of the performance: 5 – 12 minutes. A solo-ballet may not be interpreted by the choreographer him/herself. The applicant is free in his choice of subject and music. The choreographic work can be send as an Internet link ( youtube, vimeo, etc.) A prejury will select a maximum of 20 the submitted works, which will enter the contest.
Deadline for the application: 15th of April 2022
