Marienbad Film Festival

The Marienbad Film Festival is an international film festival which aims to present experimental films, moving image and expanded cinema projects. The festival is based in Marienbad, Czechia.

This year, the jubilee 10th edition of the festival will take place from June 12th to 15th, 2025. This year’s theme of the festival is “Healing Noise” and we will be focusing on errors, noise, and mistakes as a form of system subversion and regeneration.

This year, we have an open call for two competitive sections:

  1. International Competition of Experimental Films
  1. The call is open to projects in the broader definition of experimental film from both the Czech Republic and abroad.
  2. Film duration must be a maximum of 60 minutes.
  3. The work can be projected or performed in a cinema hall.
  4. The production year cannot be earlier than 2024.

 2. International Competition of Audiovisual Essays and Videographic Criticism

  1. The call is open to audiovisual essays from the Czech Republic and abroad that fit the definition of an audiovisual essay as a work that develops academic research or film criticism through the film medium itself.
  2. The goal of this section is to support videographic film studies and video essayists.
  3. The production year cannot be earlier than 2023.
