Open call: proposals for International Hybrid Academic Conference

Animation: Creativity, Practice, and Interdisciplinary Perspectives

The Animation Bucharest International Film Festival #6 (ABIFF #6), in partnership with the I.L. Caragiale National University of Theatre and Film (UNATC), invites researchers, artists, filmmakers, educators, and practitioners to submit proposals for its International Hybrid Academic Conference, held within the festival program. The conference creates a space for dialogue between artistic practice, research, and education in animation and moving image culture, encouraging interdisciplinary exchange and critical reflection on contemporary audiovisual practices.Conference Date: Saturday, 6 June 2026
Hybrid format: Bucharest (on-site) + online via Zoom

Topics may include (but are not limited to): 

  • Animation    as artistic, narrative, and experimental practice    
  • Production    processes and creative methodologies in animation    
  • Intersections    between film, visual arts, performance, and media studies   
  • Education,    training, and pedagogical approaches in audiovisual arts        
  • Representation,    identity, and critical approaches in animated film       
  • Collaborative    authorship and collective creative practices 
  • Emerging    technologies, AI, and digital tools in animation        
  • Ethics,    sustainability, and transformations in the animation industry        
  • Animation    film culture, spectatorship, and forms of engagement

Format

The conference will take place in a hybrid format, allowing both in-person participation in Bucharest and online participation via Zoom. Each selected speaker will deliver a 15-minute presentation, followed by Q&A and discussion.Submission Guidelines

Applicants are invited to submit:
– Title    of presentation
– Abstract    (300 words)      
– Short    biography (250 words)
– Keywords (5–10)      

All submissions must be written in English. Review Process

Submissions will be selected through a peer review process by the conference review committee. Publication

Selected contributions will be included in a Book of Abstracts, which will document the conference and provide a structured overview of the research presented.
