DERIVA – Artistic Residencies
MOOT – The Movement Lab is a dance and movement training platform based in São Miguel, Azores, Portugal. MOOT is offering a residency opportunity for a dancer to work with a local specified public at its DERIVA space, in collaboration with 37.25 Núcleo de Artes Performativas. By applying, applicants agree to abide by the terms and conditions outlined below.
The residency will involve a 20-day stay in São Miguel, during which the selected dancer will engage with the local community through dance and movement practices and create a training plan to be shared via MOOT’s platform. There is no obligation to produce a final artistic performance; the residency’s primary focus is the sharing and transmission of knowledge.
To be eligible to apply:
- Applicants must demonstrate significant experience in movement teaching or creation suitable for a specific audience, such as the elderly, individuals with special needs, or visually impaired persons.
- Applicants must be available for the residency period, tentatively scheduled for April 14 to May 5, 2025, with potential flexibility for exact dates within this timeframe.
- Applicants must submit all required materials within the submission period (November 1 – November 30, 2024). Late applications will not be considered.
Applications must include:
- A statement of intent detailing the applicant’s unique movement approach and relevance to the specified public.
- Documentation or examples of previous work in teaching or movement creation.
- An outline of preliminary ideas for working with the specified audience in São Miguel. Applications must be submitted via the MOOT website by 11:59 PM (UTC), November 30, 2024.
The selected dancer will be required to:
- Complete a 20-day residency in São Miguel, engaging with the specified local public group.
- Collaborate with MOOT to create a video training plan based on their movement approach, recorded for online sharing.
- Work under a legal contract with MOOT, which will outline additional details of responsibilities, copyright, and intellectual property.
MOOT will provide:
- A residency fee of €1200.
- Full accommodation and support for travel expenses up to €400.
- Technical support for the creation and recording of the training plan, with all associated materials managed and produced by MOOT.
