Light Moves Festival of Screendance – Open call

Light Moves Festival of Screendance is excited to announce the opening of submissions for our 6th festival taking place 23 – 26 September 2021 in Limerick, Ireland. The Open Call closes on 10 May 2021.

Open Call Notice for Film Submissions

Light Moves invites filmmakers, choreographers and video artists to submit screendance works for consideration for the forthcoming 2021 programme of dance film and video art with movement as a central theme. The festival will take place in Limerick, Ireland in venues across the city indoors and outdoors and online.

Light Moves welcomes works which embrace dance and all forms of movement through the art of film and video art. Submissions that attend to the unique potential of choreography, performance, cinematography and sound, as well as forms such as animation and computer modelling will all be considered. Unless otherwise stated, submission to the festival approves Light Moves to screen either in cinematic or online contexts.

Light Moves will award a range of prizes to both established and student works for films submitted. Prize categories include: Festival Prize for outstanding overall work, Most innovative use of Sound/Music (sponsored by Contemporary Music Centre), Outstanding choreography and/or performance (sponsored by Dublin Dance Festival) and Best National/International Student Work (sponsored by Irish World Academy of Music and Dance).

Film Submission Fees:

Early bird : €20 (Before 5 April 2021)
Final deadline: €25 (10 May 2021)
Student: €10

Submission Guidelines and Categories

Works considered shall include:

Short screendance films not exceeding 10 mins duration to be presented in a cinematic context.
Long screendance films not exceeding 40 mins duration to be presented in a cinematic context.
Feature length films over 40 min duration. This category many include feature length documentary, narrative, non-narrative or film recreations of live works. Please note a limited number of longer film can be selected due to screening time capacity during the festival.
Student films in which the director and/or choreographer is a registered student on a course up to and including MA level during the production of the submitted work.
Silent films (films without scores or where the artist gives permission for the film to be screened with new live improvised score composed and performed to it as part of a special outdoor programme for 2021.)
Animation films (focused on dance/movement and ideally embracing themes of wellbeing or celebration suitable for school age groups 5 – 12 years.)

Although every effort will be made to present works in person, the festival will engage a blended or fully online event as necessary and in line with Government COVID 19 Guidelines.
