Open Call – Choreographers and Dance Companies

. General Information 

The Cyprus Contemporary Dance Festival will be organized in June 2025 for the 26th consecutive year. The Festival is co-organised by the Department of Contemporary Culture of the Deputy Ministry of Culture and the Rialto Theatre. 

The Festival aims to attract audiences from all backgrounds and offer them the opportunity to attend a number of innovative works of internationally renowned choreographers and dance companies, thus significantly contributing to the promotion of contemporary dance in Cyprus. At the same time, the Festival aims to strengthen international artistic dialogue and enhance the relations between the local and international contemporary dance communities. 

2. Dates and Venues  

The Festival will take place at Rialto Theatre in Limassol (www.rialto.com.cy) in June 2025 (1-22 June 2025). A number of selected performances will also be presented at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre (www.facebook.com/NicosiaMunicipalTheatre/). The exact dates and venues of each performance will be decided according to the choreographers’/dance companies’ and venues’ availability.

3. Rules of Participation

3.1 Each choreographer/dance company can submit only one (1) proposal. 

3.2 The proposed productions must not have been presented before in Cyprus.

3.3 Choreographers/dance companies that have performed in Cyprus during the last three years will not be considered for selection. 

3.4 The proposals should concern contemporary dance performances only. 

3.5 Each proposal should include:

  1. Detailed information of every proposal (to be presented on the Data form) in Greek or English. 
  2. Budget of each proposal (to be presented on the Budget form).
  3. List of technical requirements.
  4. Video of the complete performance via a link on Youtube or Vimeo. 
  5. Any other information considered helpful for the selection procedure. 

3.6 Proposals that are not accompanied by all necessary documents mentioned in Paragraph 3.5 above will not be considered.

3.7 Alteration in the budget submitted after the submission of the proposals will not be accepted.

3.8 The submission of a proposal does not guarantee its inclusion in the Festival.

3.9 The organisers are not obliged to justify the rationale regarding the proposals that will not be selected.

4. Selection Procedure 

4.1 The Artistic Advisor of the Festival, taking into consideration all aspects, including the available budget and the overall goals of the Festival, will evaluate all proposals and will submit to the Deputy Ministry of Culture his recommendations. 

4.2 The Artistic Advisor is also endorsed to extend invitations for the submission of proposals to selected choreographers/dance companies. 

4.3 The Cypriot participation in the Festival will be chosen from the works selected for funding within the framework of the “Terpsichori 2024” program. 

5. Submission of Proposals

The proposals have to be submitted by filling-in the forms posted the Festival’s official website https://www.cypruscontemporarydancefestival.com or the Department’s website http://www.culture.gov.cy/dmculture/dcc.nsf/home/home?openform). The duly filled-in forms must be sent via e-mail at the following address: ccdf@rialto.com.cy . Proposals sent by any other way will not be accepted. 

6. Deadlines

The deadline for the submission of the proposals expires on Friday, November 29th 2024 at 23:59. No proposals will be accepted after this date.

7. Maximum Amount of Funding and Disbursement 

7.1 The Department of Contemporary Culture will fully fund the performance’s expenses included in the budget submitted with the application form. The maximum amount of funding is €30.000 (including travel expenses, taxes and rights). 

7.2 The funding will be granted in two instalments: 

  1. The first instalment (50%) will be effected before the performance and after the signing of the contract. 
  2. The second instalment will be effected after the submission, on behalf of the dance groups/choreographers, of all relevant invoices/receipts of the performance, as per the initial and approved budget. 

7.3 The final amount of the total funding shall be estimated according to the actual expenses submitted. If the total amount of documented expenses of the performances is lower than the amount of the eligible expenses of the budget approved, then the funding will be accordingly reduced.

8. Signing of contract

The legal representative of each of the selected proposals will be asked to sign the contract for their participation with the organisers of the Festival.
