Open Call for Emerging Visual Artists
Open Call for Emerging Visual Artists within CineEuroConnect: A Collaborative Film Museum & Heritage Film Festival (31 August – 10 September)
We are delighted to offer emerging visual artists a unique platform to express their contemporary vision of the cinematic universe and pay tribute to its influence on society.
Entry Requirements: We aim to discover and promote emerging talents in the field of visual arts, regardless of their studies. To participate, please send the following to cineeuroconnect@gmail.com:
- Portfolio and CV: Present yourself through a comprehensive portfolio reflecting your artistic development and style. Include an updated CV to give us an insight into your artistic background and experience, as well as a short biography to be used further in the promotion, if selected.
- Letter of Intent: Write a letter outlining your perspective on contemporary art and how you relate to cinema in the current context (maximum one page). How do you see the influence of cinema in society and how do you want to bring an artistic reinterpretation of this influence through your work?
- Visual Work Proposal/Sketch: We would like to challenge you to create an innovative visual work that reinterprets the history of cinema and highlights its impact. Submit a proposal or sketch of the work you plan to create for our collaborative museum. Please note that these proposals are not final, but represent an initial stage in the creative process. It is important to mention the style of approach, working technique, materials from which the work will be created – it should be relatively easy to transport later and ultimately fit within the dimensions of 50 x 70 cm or 50 x 50 x 50 cm.
Selection and Collaboration Process: After the call, a team of experienced curators together with the artistic director will select 6 emerging visual artists from abroad (Europe) and 6 emerging visual artists from Romania. These artists will be invited to collaborate in an innovative way, contributing to the reinterpretation of the history of cinema through their own artistic works. These works will interact and create connections with the objects provided by the community, bringing to the forefront the personal stories and individual perspective of each artist.
Exhibition Opportunity: The chosen artists and their works will be part of the CineEuroConnect: A Collaborative Film Museum & Heritage Film Festival exhibition in the physical exhibition in Timisoara and in the project’s virtual gallery: www.CineEuroConnect.org.
Financial Contribution and Ownership of the Artwork: For each selected visual artist, CineEuroConnect will provide a sum of 1,000 euros gross for the creation of the new artwork. The resulting artwork will remain the property of the organizer, contributing to our permanent collection of cinema-inspired artworks. The transport costs of the artwork will also be covered by the organiser.
How to Participate: To enter the competition, please email the above materials to: cineeuroconnect@gmail.com. Make sure the subject of the email includes “Calling Emerging Visual Artists”. Deadline for entries is September 10.
Recognition and Contribution to Our Global Narrative: Selected artists will receive recognition on the project website and in the physical exhibition. By reinterpreting the history of cinema and collaborating with community donated objects, you will contribute to building a global narrative about the impact of cinema on culture and society.
The selected submissions will be published on 13 September, and artists have until 24 September to create and submit new visual artworks that will be part of CineEuroConnect: A Collaborative Film Museum & Heritage Film Festival.
