NART is announcing its’ first open call to welcome both professionals and emerging artists, architects, designers, thinkers, philosophers and curators to apply for a residency in 2019. The deadline for applications is January 25th. Applicants will be selected by a committee invited together by NART. Successful applicants will be contacted in February 2019.

Residency History
Narva Art Residency is located at the historical villa in a close proximity of vacant Krenholm Textile Factory. The first exhibition (“Architectural Photography with a Little Boy” by Tõnis Saadoja) took place in the building in 2014 and in 2015 the first artist-in-residence arrived. Since then it has offered time and space for creation and reflection to artists across the world.
Duration of Residency
We are now accepting applications for 2019. Residencies may be from 1 week to 8 weeks. We encourage to apply for a minimum of 1 month long residency.
Residency Fee and Accommodation
Residency is free of charge offering an accommodation and a studio space for 1–3 residents at the time, but the resident is responsible for covering his/her own costs for travelling and materials/tools.
You will be hosted in the residency building in one of the three bedrooms; these vary in size and have either private or a shared bathroom.
Since the renovation of our kitchen we are enthusiastic about cooking together once in a while and having inspiring conversations over a shared meal. On daily bases residents will share one kitchen and are individually responsible for their own food.
Studio / Workspace
As artist’s studio needs and space differs, we work with each artist to find the best possible working situation for their time. In general there are around 4–5 different large rooms that can either be merged into a bigger studio or be divided into different zones; there is also one office / co-working space and a historical soviet era cinema / theatre hall on the second floor with around 120 seats.
Expectations Towards the Artist
We expect a selected resident to do a basic research about the Narva city before arriving to the residency. This is important in order to have an understanding and an initial idea what this complex environment carries and has to offer.
NART is built on an understanding of a certain DIY (do it yourself) culture. We offer time and space (as well as some basic tools and technical equipment; production of public events including communication, event organisation) but when it comes to artistic ideas and needs, artist has a full responsibility to find ways to execute them on its’ own (ex building, technical needs etc); we can only provide information and contacts to ease the process.
As NART serves a mission to integrate and enrich local community through arts and culture residents are expected to propose any form of public sharing suitable for their work: this can be leading a workshop, open studio, giving a lecture, sharing a film, exhibiting/performing work etc.
Selection Process
Applications are reviewed by a committee invited together by NART for each open call. The next open call runs from December 21th 2018 – January 25th 2019. Successful applicants will be notified in February 2019.
Scholarships
NART is offering an invitation letter to support applicant’s procedure to apply for scholarships.
