Tbilisi International Festival of Theatre announces a call for participation!

Program New | September 14 – 30, 2018

Program NEW:

This is the story about artists who want to take a risk and challenge undiscovered audiences;
The possibility to represent work abroad;
The opportunity to widen the knowledge about the performing arts sector in the Eastern European Region.

The program was presented to the Georgian audience as a part of International Program with the aim to take a risk and give chance to the newcomers from abroad. Tbilisi International Festival of Theatre decided to open frames and encourage different disciplines of art, with the purpose of making diverse program and area. In first addition (2011) we received over 300 applications and artistic proposals from different countries and fields of art as theater, dance, street arts, circus and music.

Since then – we hosted several companies from different places of world – the wonderful works and artists from Israel, Poland, Lithuania, Argentina, Romania, Germany, Finland, Russia, India, Denmark, Slovenia, Armenia, South Korea, Azerbaijan, Norway, Hungary made the idea of NEW successful.
“NEW” is getting more popular, with received 500 – 650 applications for each year.
Welcome to Georgia, to the rich theatrical country, in the city – Tbilisi where the festival gathers wide range of talents and artists from all around the world with their most courageous ideas to meet are truly magnificent audience.

With the main purpose to present the diverse landscape of theatre life we announce special focus on contemporary theatre productions with special emphasis on street arts.

Because of the anniversary we decided to establish 2 prizes:

Best „NEW” of the edition 2018 which will be named by the Georgian Theatre Critics Association.
“Discovery of 2018” which will be named by the magazine “Caucasian Business week”.

CONDITIONS for participation

The Festival provides the following:

Venue and technical support
General publicity
Accommodation during the stay
Airport transfers
Per-diems (25 USD per person per day)

Please take into consideration the following points:

The set-up day and performance day will be appointed by the festival and it varies from 2 to 3 days, accommodation is set accordingly;
TBS international does not cover your travel costs and does not provide an artistic fee. The final program is based on selection;
The Deadline for call of applications – April 1, 2018
Selected performances will be announced by e-mail not later than April 15, 2018

Open call – Producers’ Academy (Third edition)

How to define production today?
Where does it stand in the cultural sector?
How to put it in perspective with cultural rights of the Declaration of Human Rights?
How to adapt the methods of negotiation to specific cultural contexts?
What are the main problems met in production?
How to work efficiently while respecting and understanding different cultural realities of the partners?

These questions will be raised during 4 days of workshops devoted to international productions. Through sessions facilitated by experts and practitioners, we will approach practical aspects of international collaborations including administrative, legal and financial issues. We will also discuss the subject in a more conceptual manner, while questioning innovative production models that reinvent the global cultural landscape.

The workshops will be held exclusively in English.
Lunch will be served every day.
Registration is free of charge, participants will be selected upon application.

Criteria of eligibility

Producers’ Academy is open to:

People from all nationalities
People who have at least five years of experience as a producer* in the performing arts sector** (particularly in relation to the international development of their organisation, company, association etc.)
Producers/Cultural entrepreneurs who have developed or are in the process of developing innovative way(s) to support creation in an international dimension and/or with a trans-sectorial approach (performing arts and social engagement, performing arts and climate change issues etc.)
The event will be held exclusively in English. Therefore, participants need to be able to understand, communicate and work in English.

Applications will have to be submitted to CIFAS by 01 April 2018. We will request participants to motivate their application in line with the criteria and programme of this 3rd edition. A complete and updated curriculum should also be submitted.

Financial conditions

Participation is free of charge (Full programme + lunches)*
For non-EU based / nationals’ applicants who need a Schengen visa and/or do not have any funding for their travels in case of selection, please send your application as soon as possible, at the latest on 15.03.2018.

* We can send official invitation letters to those who wish to activate ways to support their participation costs. We, and our partner On The Move, will be happy to provide advice and guidance about available mobility support programmes.
